Broes is a quintet based in Ghent. In nearly five years of existence, Broes has explored many musical paths in the world of folk music and have acquired an impressive number of accolades. In the same year the band was formed, the internet site "Folkroddels" crowned Broes as "Best Newcomer of the Year". In 2013 they were the winners of Dranouterrally, the biggers folk and world music festival of Belgium.
They have toured throughout China two years in a row and even made it to Belarus, International folklore festival. The first year in China (2013) was a little tour with three concerts in Nanjing, the second year (2014) they travelled from Honk Kong to Beijing, 10 concerts on 4 different international jazz and world music festivals. Even they played on the Convention of Europe of 2014 in Strasbourg.
Their compositions are peppered with a love for gypsy, jazz, balkan, folk and Latin music. Danceable and energetic feel-good music with room for improvisation: that's Broes's business card.
