Sourdine - Sourdine [2006 Belgium] @320

The trio Sourdine plays refined instrumental music in an exquisite combination of four acoustic instruments: whistles, bagpipes, violin and guitar. The repertoire consists of the trio’s own compositions and varies from calm pieces, which enable the listener to fully enjoy the warm group sound, to up tempo numbers which invoke a different mood altogether. Music that does not impose itself, but still manages to capture the listener’s attention from the very first notes…

Rémi Decker grew up in a musical family. He discovers the bagpipes at the age of 10. He later finds out that his grandfather, a well-known composer and pianist, was also passionate about bagpipes and traditional music. Rémi follows a few workshops, but mostly develops his art in a more self-taught way. Quite naturally after some time he starts to play whistles as well. In 2000 together with accordion player Pierre-Yves Berhin he forms the duo (and later band) 'k Voel me Belg (literally 'I feel Belgian'). They win the 1st prize at the duo contest of Festival des Maîtres Sonneurs (St. Chartier - France) and at the Speelmanstreffen (Volksmuziekfederatie Gooik - Belgium). Next that to that Rémi is also founder of Griff, and member of the Belgian Bagpipe Groove Experience and Duo Decker-Decombel.
When Rémi doesn't play in his own musical projects he can be seen with Ialma and the french band Minuit Guibolles. He has toured with his music in Germany, Finland, France, Andora, Austria...
Last but not least he is often asked to do studio recordings and has built a firm reputation as a bagpipe and whistle teacher.

Wim Baeck started playing the violin when he was seven. After having begun a classical training he changes his interest to folk music. He followed classes with Luc Pilarz, and several master classes with among others J. F. Vrod, Maria Jonsson and Mikael Marin. Beside these lessons his playing style is also the result of his own eclectic musical taste. Wim played in the violin trio Elgwi and the band Tantra. Nice to know is that he builds his own instruments!

Filip Lambrechts starts playing the guitar at the age of 16 by means of a primer and then improves his playing by imitating what he hears on records (mostly American singer-songwriters). Some time later he discovers DADGAD (particular way of tuning the guitar) thanks to the recordings of Pierre Bensusan. After having studied jazz music for some years he returns to acoustic folk music and specialises in his beloved tuning. Filip is also member of the Belgian-Galician band Camaxe with whom he recorded the albums Imaxes and Airexa...
